Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Right now it is difficult times for everybody. Charities are being hit hard and it is estimated that due to cancelled events they will lose approximately £4 billion pounds from fundraising!  We have also been inspired by an amazing little girl I teach who has undergone a huge amount of fundraising for cancer charities close to her heart. She is doing her own 2.6 challenge for those charities and it set the cogs turning for us.

Laurie has been a worry since around 24 weeks of pregnancy. She’s now 4 and 3 months and I finally feel like I’m starting to relax a little about her. That’s thanks to the knowledge we have gained from this brilliant charity. For the first few years of her life I felt like nobody was listening to me but Child Growth Foundation did!

Laurie was diagnosed as maternal uniparental disomy 20 in November 2018. She is one of only around 15 known cases. She also produces low levels of growth hormone. We currently don’t know whether she is growth hormone deficient and this is something that will be checked when she is a bit older. Personally, I suspect she is.

As a family who have massively benefited from the support and knowledge of The Child Growth Foundation we want  to do our bit. They have helped us through every step of our journey with Laurie and without them we would not have had the knowledge or confidence to get to the point we are at today. We are 4 months into a years trial of growth hormone for our little lady. We feel this is working for Laurie but we can’t know for sure until her next check up which has understandably been postponed.

We want to give something back to this amazing charity because they’ve given so much to us... knowledge, confidence, reassurance, inspiration and faith.

We attended their annual conference for the first time last year. This gave us the chance to meet other families in our position. It also gave us a chance to meet absolute experts in the field of child growth. nothing beats meeting people who just ‘get it’.  The conference places are heavily subsidised by the charity and it was clear that they rely heavily on fundraising to enable this to happen. They also fund research into growth conditions and genetic analysis.

Our 2.6 challenge will involve the following:

Laurie and Claire will walk 26 miles (probably in 4 mile stints)

Albie and Darren will do a 26 mile bike ride.

Darren will cycle 260km.

If 2.6 million people raise £26 it will nearly cover the 70million shortfall that our charities will experience.  Please give what you can, no matter how small it may seem to you. To the charity every single pound will really help.

Thank you for your support xx
