Story
Hi there!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.
I've recently been diagnosed with moderate+ hearing loss in both my ears and chronic tinnitus. Seriously, it's like there's an angry aviary in my head ALL THE TIME. I've known I've had hearing issues for a while; even as a child I had tests and some small ENT ops to fix things. The last few years, it's got so bad that it's affected my work and seen me shy away from social stuff because I can't hear or the wall of sound is confusing and overwhelming.
The diagnosis then shouldn't have come as a big surprise, but to be honest, there's been some denial. Is it facing up to needing to wear hearing aids and worrying about people seeing? Is it having to explain my disability to friends, colleagues and strangers? Is it that as a Welsh person, I struggle to talk about hearing, because 'ear', 'year' and 'here' are all pronounced the same (:D)? Maybe. Regardless, there's stigma and that's one of the things the RNID are tackling.
I've decided to run the London Marathon in April 2024 to support the RNID, the national charity who support the 12 million people in the UK who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus. That's a lot of us.
If you're able to donate, thank you so much. I'm going to be updating this page regularly with my fundraising events and adventures... eventures...is that a thing?
