The Story:
Rewind back many years ago on a daft night in Peterlee, the equally challenged John Simon and I shared a common dream: to take part in the famous 'Rickshaw Run'. Years passed by...life took over...nothing had become of this rickshaw dream.
Well at the beginning of this year with I had a epiphany...or maybe it was a mid-life crisis moment, but it kicked me up the butt and I finally signed us up...and that dream of Rickshaw Madness has now become reality.
Now the reason I haven't started the fundraising until now is because I recently lost my mum to cancer, and I was fundraising for Macmillan for a bit, and encouraging folk to give money for other marvellous charities through other amazing folk doing amazing things. Better late than never like.
The Challenge:
Approximately 3,500km pan-Indian adventure in a 7 horsepower glorified lawnmower. The Rickshaw Run is easily the least sensible thing to do with two weeks. Its dangerous, its dirty, and the likelihood of the Rickshaw breaking down several times is canny high. The Charity:
Well its my turn again now to raise coinage, and the charity of choice for the Adventurists is Cool Earth. Cool Earth works alongside indigenous villages to halt rainforest destruction. Cool Earth believe that local people are the forest's best custodians and are the key to halting deforestation, and helping to put them back in control of their forest.
Cool Earth don't spend money on reserves or fences, they don't buy land. Instead Cool Earth secure the land tenure for the people who live there already. Unlike many other conservation charities, Cool earth focuses on at-risk rainforest on the arc of deforestation, rather than forest in the interior. This protected forest forms a shield to make the nearby forest inaccessible to loggers, saving millions of acres of forest.Charities pay a small fee for our service. Learn more about fees
