Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I would just like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has sponsored me. I've raised well in excess of my original target of £500, so I have pushed the bar up to £1000 - now that would be amazing!
The race was fantastic and I completed it in 1 hour 51 minutes. I felt very proud to be running for GOSHCC.
Thanks again!
On Sunday 19th September, Haile Gebrselassie and I, together with a mere 53,998 other people, will be pounding the streets from Newcastle to South Shields in the 2010 BUPA Great North Run. Whilst I am not sure which charity Haile will be supporting, I am running to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. In 2008 my godson, Morgan (who was then just under 2 years old), was admitted to GOSH with very serious kidney problems. He spent a number of months in the hospital and underwent a number of major operations. I visited the ward he was on; it was clean as you would expect but it was cramped and quite out-dated and there was little privacy for the children on it and their families. It did not sit happily with the world-class reputation the hospital staff have achieved and strive to maintain. Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity needs to raise over £50 million each year to make sure the hospital remains the world-class pioneering institution it is today. Support from fundraising helps them buy vital equipment, fund pioneering research and, most importantly, to rebuild and refurbish some of their hospital site. I am pleased to say that Morgan’s operations were (eventually) successful, thanks to the fantastic medical care and attention he received at GOSH. Hopefully he will never have to return; however many, many children and families will. As I’ve got 2 young children of my own I want to do my bit to offer my help and support.
