Story

Greetings All, I am the Lord Mayor of Bristol ⚜️ a little unfit but determined to run the 10k in Bristol on May 5th.  Inspired by the This Girl Can campaign in Bristol www.bristolgirlscan.co.uk   I like to believe that this Lord Mayor CAN! 🙅🏾‍♀️🤞🏽🏃🏾‍♀️

As well as getting fitter through the training 👟 🥵 I have decided to make an effort to fundraise 💷 for the National Caribbean Monument Charity who wish to erect a substantial monument for Caribbean Military Personnel in the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire. https://thenationalcaribbeanmonument.org/

I was invited to the memorial launch in Birmingham in February of this year and was moved by listening to the Committee and veterans who are driving the project forward.  It is as much about the future and present as it is the past and I hve also been inspired by the recent Sikh memorial unveiling in Bristol.  I believe the time is right to etch the hidden contributions into our collective landscape so that we may find more pride, purpose, understanding and cohesion in our collective narratives.  As part of the project I am also committing to enaging a multi cultural youth group to follow the journey to realising the monument and eventually visiting it and producing a creative response with the help of ACE Music based at Docklands 🎶🎺🎤🥁🎼🎹http://www.aspirationcreationelevation.com

I like that it is a national memorial to be at the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire and in that sense it can connect people accross the UK and beyond.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and considering to  pledge your support 🙏🏽💫💕

We are a charity whose aim is to install a befitting monument in the National Memorial Arboretum, in recognition of sacrifices and contributions made over centuries by men and women of the Caribbean who served in the British Armed Forces and the Merchant Navy. To uphold their memory, maintain links with past, present and future generations for services to Britain. To enforce their contributions through presentations and literature, educational programmes to schools, churches, organisations and the general public. Creating a legacy for present and future generations.
