The Climb for Cait
Hey everyone! Thanks for visiting our personal fundraising page. This page represents a group of thirty friends and family who will be taking part in two simultaneous events on November 7th 2015; Sea2Summit in Westport, Ireland, and Urban-Ultra RockRunner in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE.
The reason we have all come together to do this is to celebrate our dear friend Kate’s love of life, laughter and adventure. Kate was one of the warmest, most fun loving and positive people we have been blessed to have in our lives. Kate led an active lifestyle and loved the challenge of the most gruelling adventure races, such as – Gaelforce, Achill Roar, and countless number of triathlons and marathons all over Ireland. Just prior to her diagnosis she was fundraising for Hell and Back, and in that spirit we have decided to take on this challenge in honor of her passion for the great outdoors.
Kate, at a young age of 29, was diagnosed with a Stage IV brain tumor. This marked the beginning of the toughest challenge she ever had to face, which she fought with the utmost courage and strength. Through meditation, Kate was able to overcome the darkness associated with this illness and embrace life with a positive outlook.
The charity we have chosen is Irish Cancer Society – Nursing services. This is due to the amazing and compassionate help and support they provided to Kate and her family during the last few weeks of her illness. Theses nurses made it possible for Kate to remain in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family and friends.
In Kate’s short life she was lucky to have found her soulmate in her partner Barry, and they were blessed with their beautiful daughter Ellen. Kate and Ellen shared an unbreakable bond, one that brought immeasurable happiness and joy to Kate’s life. We are comforted to know that we will always have a part of Kate in Ellen.
Our message for this event comes from a reflection Kate wrote on one of her tougher days, “When times are bad, I try to Reach For The Light Within”, a message which we are sure she would love to instill in anyone going through a similar situation.
