Story

In 2 weeks time against all the odds, I am going to compete for the first time ever in a strongman competition.

Most of you who know me personally will know that I have been through quite a bit in the last few years; In early 2013 while training hard I started to get heart arrhythmias, I had my heart stopped and restarted a few times but every-time I got back in the gym it would happen again. In the July I collapsed at home with a burst spleen, I had my spleen removed but I had to be kept in a coma in ITU for 4 days as they could not stop me bleeding internally. After a few transfusions I finally stopped bleeding and they sewed me back together like humpty dumpty.

Although I had recovered pretty well in the first few weeks I was soon in agony and I lost the use of my legs, I was pretty much in a wheelchair for 6 months after that.

After a hell of a lot of tests and scans, by 'luck' a Doctor diagnosed me with AL Amyloidosis a terminal disease of the bone marrow. I had suffered massive Heart, Kidney and Liver damage by then and in the November of 2013 I was told by my specialist to prepare as I only had around 2 weeks left to live.

The NAC (National Amyloidosis Centre) at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead Heath London started treatment and I had an ICD/Pacemaker fitted to look after my heart and then underwent chemotherapy which brought the underlying disease into remission in later 2014. While I was having treatment and scans it was noted I had a large growth on one of my Kidneys. In November last year I had my that Kidney removed and it was found to be cancerous.

So to say I am pretty lucky to be here is probably a slight understatement.

This will also probably be my last ever Strongman event, my blood levels are increasing so I need treatment again and later in October I am due to begin my next journey and have a bone marrow transplant.

I would like to raise some money to help others in my position by giving to the very centre that saved my life and continue to keep me alive.

Please help me raise some money and raise awareness for this disease along the way by donating a little cash and sharing this page :)

Big Love

Clint
