The Ear Foundation helped fund the first cochlear implants for deaf children in the UK. We now support children, young people & adults who use a variety of modern hearing technologies. Offering independent advice & activites to bridge the gap between clinics where they're fitted and home where used.

Story

In 2005 my eldest son, Jacob, was born profoundly deaf.  At the age of 3 he had his first cochlear implant which completely changed his life.  A year later he had a second implant giving him bilateral hearing.  Since then the Ear Foundation have been a fantastic support to Jacob, both medically and personally.  They offer regular hearing tests, the latest technologies and frequent, fun events where he can meet other children who have been through the same things.

What The Ear Foundation have done for Jacob is just a very small part of what they are all about.  They bridge the gap between the technology of the clinics and the everyday life of the community for both children and adults.

Not only have they given Jacob the technology for him to hear, they have helped him build his confidence allowing him to interact with his peers.

To help support this charity and in an attempt to show our thanks and appreciation, my Mother and I will be walking from Lytham St Annes on the West coast to Whitby on the East coast over a 7 day period.  This is similar to the Wainwrights walk but we have personalised it as the first part of our walk has a strong family connection.
