Fundraising for Marine Conservation Society
Story
I am Josh and this is Coasting It.
On March 1st 2018, I will be undertaking the challenge of walking 1600 miles from Queensferry to Poole.
Starting at Queensferry on the northern tip of the Welsh Coastal Path, I will begin my adventure walking the whole expanse of the Welsh Coastal Path to Chepstow. This 870-mile stretch will see me pass through Anglesey and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, where I should encounter plenty of wildlife. If I'm lucky, I will encounter dolphins at Cardigan Bay and meet puffins on Skomer Island.
From Chepstow there is a stretch of 100 miles to Minehead, from where I reach the South West Coastal Path. This will see me walk a further 630 miles to Poole where I will finish my journey. From potential basking shark spotting in Cornwall, to the exquisite natural beauty of the Jurassic Coast, this last stretch of the journey is sure to be thrilling.
I will be aiming to finish in 200 days, giving an average of 8 miles a day. With everything needed being carried on my back, I will be camping at night overlooking the most scenic of coasts.
I am doing this to raise money for Marine Conservation Society, a charity very close to my heart. The Marine Conservation Society is the UK’s leading charity for the protection of our seas, shores and wildlife. Our seas are under immense pressure: too many fish are being taken out, too much rubbish is being thrown in and too little is being done to protect marine wildlife and fish stocks.
Our UK seas and coasts are amongst the most diverse and beautiful on the planet, playing host to dolphins, sharks, whales and turtles. Over half of the UK’s wildlife resides within our seas and many other species such as seabirds rely on them for their survival.
