Choral Steeplechase · 13 September 2014 ·

We showcase an ambitious repertoire for the smaller choir and work with other local charities in the promotion of music. We support young singers and musicians through financial help, mentoring and creating performance opportunities. We have sung to over 3000 people across Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk

Story

Shoppers in Colchester can look forward to a choral treat on Saturday 13th September, when The Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr John and Mrs Janet Elliott, launch the first ever charity ‘Choral Steeplechase’ at Holy Trinity Church in Trinity Street at 10 am.

Twenty five singers from the renowned Colchester Chamber Choir – which was recently featured on Radio 3 – will sing their way around as many churches as they can in one day, starting in Colchester town centre and including the chapel on the first floor of the famous Colchester Castle. In the afternoon the choir will travel to churches on the outskirts of Colchester as well as Halstead and villages in North Essex. The churches are of all denominations ranging from Greek Orthodox to Quaker Meeting Houses.

The aim is to raise money for the Friends of Essex Churches Trust and for the choir’s Choral Apprenticeship scheme for young singers, as part of the annual Essex wide Ride & Stride fundraising event. In each church will sing a short unaccompanied work from their varied repertoire.
