Story
Dear Facebookers and anyone else who is interested.
I have some important news.
First I will explain my intentions for this short story – My intention is to try and raise money for charity.
The 2 charities I want raise for are Cancer Research UK and CLAN.
My reasons for raising for Cancer Research UK will be explained soon (if you haven’t fallen asleep by then). My reason for CLAN is partly for the first reason but also because of my personal interest in a separate charity raising event (Mongol Troopers – also on Facebook) with CLAN being a part of this.
Onto the most important part of the story though.
On January 16 2013 , I got a phone call to say my Mother Toni little had cancer.
Before I go any further, my brave Mum fully recovered from this pathetic excuse of a disease. At this moment however, my world pretty much seemed to collapse around me as I have never experienced such a thing before. The thoughts that go through your head (as I am sure a lot of people have experienced) when you get news like this is almost unbearable (especially not knowing what to think) but also my mind was in a weak state at the time as I had been through intense exam revision (students, you know how it is!).
To try and keep my end of the deal of a ‘short story’, my Mum went in for an operation a couple weeks after hearing the news and made a full recovery (we still had to wait 5 weeks to find out if the operation had been a success). Luckily it had but that 5 weeks was still quite difficult for me as I still didn’t know what to think. (The lesson I learned from this whole event was to keep positive but I couldn’t do this at the time ).
We eventually got the all clear which believe me is a great gift of life. It opened my eyes (amongst a lot of other positive things in my life).
A way in which this event has changed my life forever (in a positive way) was the decision to get fitter, amongst other things, (how cliché) and on the 19th of May I will be completing the Baker Hughes 10KM run.
I understand a 10KM run is no incredible feat but I am going to attempt to do it in less than 40 minutes (which for me) is definitely a challenge I have been preparing for.
If anyone would like to donate to charity for me to do this (there is a choice between Cancer Research UK and CLAN) on my Just Giving web page called ‘Dynamo’. (Which you should be reading this on) ;-)
If you do not want to donate then that is fine but remember, any amount of money whether it is £0.10 or £1 is still something and will be very much appreciated. Who cares if that is all you can afford??? – It’s going to a great cause.
Anyway I am sure this 10 minute ‘short story’ is getting long enough but it is either this or the 2 hour version – Your choice!
I would also like to thank all the people that were there for me when I needed them. You all know who you are – Now I am stronger than all the Super Heroes out their put together!
Just to avoid disappointment (even though it is about taking part and raising money); I haven’t yet done a 10KM run in under 40 minutes but I HAVE done a 10.3KM run in just under 43 minutes so we will just have to see how the run on the day pans out!
Thank you for reading and get donating people! – Thank you much
Colin Adams aka ‘Dynamo’ - (I have had this nickname way longer than that magician guy just for the record!)
