Story

Colin received his devastating news of terminal bowel cancer just before Christmas 2021 at the age of 57, about to retire and looking forward to starting a new phase of his life. He wanted to spend the time he had left with those he loved, feeling as well as he could, for as long as he could. He was able to make one last trip to Spain, a place he loved and was hoping to retire to. Sadly, Colin passed away on the 5th May 2022 at the Y Bwthyn Newydd Specialist Palliative Care Unit, surrounded by those who loved him.

Colin showed great courage, dignity and concern for others during this time and was very appreciative of the great care and support he and his loved ones received from the doctors and nurses at the Y Bwthyn Unit. We feel it would be a fitting way to remember Colin and celebrate his life by donating to this wonderful and special unit.

Y Bwthyn Newydd

This purpose built unit provides palliative care and support for patients and their families. The philosophy of the unit is to maximise quality of life, preserve dignity and provide choice enabling patients, family and carers to remain in control of their lives. It is staffed by a team of dedicated doctors, nurses and therapists in an 8 bedded unit which was opened in 1997 at The Princess of Wales Hospital site.
