Story
I'm raising money for ABF The Soldiers' Charity who provide vital support to soldiers, veterans and their families in times of need. For Soldiers. For Life.
75 Years ago from the 17th to the 26th September
a major offensive was launched code named Market Garden, it was a daring plan
to speed up the end of the 2nd World war but would end in failure
and the loss of a large number of troops including British, American and Polish
soldiers and a large number of brave Dutch civilians.
In order to recognise those men and women, I have decided to
complete my military service and carry out an airborne landing in the same
fields in recognition of my own 35 years’ service and to raise money for the
(ABF) The Soldiers Charity. This charity
assists anyone who has served in the army and their families and its motto is
“One day of service a lifetime of support”.
My personal commitment to this experience is using 5 days of
my annual leave in order to requalify for my parachute wings (I need to
complete 5 static line jumps at 3000 feet) and personal expenses of £1750. This will then be followed by my jumping out
of a C-47 WW11 Dakota aeroplane onto Renkum dropzone wearing 2nd
world war uniform and equipment. All
money raised will be donated directly to the ABF in full, I hope that like me
anyone who has seen the film “a bridge too far” would recognise courage and
tenacity which is a useful trait in civilian life also.
Your support however small will assist many people and I
thank
you in advance.
