Story
The Chara Challenge was founded in 2009 after 3 Commando Brigade returned from their third tour of duty in Afghanistan. During that tour 37 of our comrades were killed in action while a further 167 were seriously wounded. To date 60 members of 3 Commando Brigade have been killed serving their country in Afghanistan. The purpose of the Chara Challenge is to raise money for those charities that have a proven record of providing benevolence services for our wounded comrades and the dependants of the fallen. The Commando Logistic Regiment Team are raising money for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust.
The Chara Challenge is a demanding event that starts and finishes at Okehampton Camp and takes place across Dartmoor. It comprises of two distinct races for people of differing ability: We are racing the hardest route, 30 miles across Dartmoor carrying 32lbs of weight (not including food or water but including safety equipment) in under 10 hours.
