We deliver critical medical care to save lives across the Thames Valley

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 28th January 2015 I got a phone call to say that my mum was involved in an accident and she was being airlifted to hospital. I rallied my family and we went straight to the hospital. Once at the John Radcliffe we were put into a family room and waited for details of what had happened. After what seemed like hours we were informed that mum had sustained a severe head injury, with a broken collar bone and several broken ribs, it was decided that she was to be placed in a medical induced coma to allow the pressure in her brain to reduce.
I can't begin to explain what my mum looked like when we first saw her that afternoon, she was lifeless with what looked like tubes going in and out of her. She was sent to the intensive care unit where she stayed for about a week until a bed on the neuro intensive care ward was available. This ward is the most amazing high tech place that I have ever seen. When the time came to bring her out of the coma it was evident that her brain injury was much worse than first thought.
It was at this point that we all thought that she wouldn’t make it, but thankfully mum being mum was strong and she never gave up. Even when she was more alert she was so confused but after many weeks in the rehab unit she learnt how to walk again and began to try and take care of her personal needs with much help and support from the staff and from all the family.
There was many times when she was frustrated at not being able to do everyday things and she had many good and bad days, but eventually she came home in June 2015. With ongoing help and support from family and many support groups mum is well on her way to adapting to her new life.
I have always been an avid supporter of the air ambulance but like most people I never expected that anyone in my immediate family would ever need to use it. But it’s very clear to say that without the air ambulance my mum simply wouldn't be here today, my family and I can’t thank the air ambulance staff, the paramedics and all the wonderful people at the John Radcliffe hospital enough words are not enough to convey our gratitude. Therefore please help me raise as much money as possible for this amazing charity; you never know when you or someone you love might need it!!
Thank you for your time and generosity
