Story

Update, 19th of September, 2014.

I emailed most of you last night. But just in case, here is the latest.

In a few days it will be month since I did the Warrior’s run. We have reached our target, and then some. Everyone involved can be very, very proud.

Last Saturday I met up with Giles, and we took the selfie posted on this page. We are two happy lads.

I will close down the Just Giving account on the 26th of September. The next step is to find Giles a home in Hastings.

Onwards and upwards.

Thank you so, so much each and everyone of you.

Conor

Update, 22 of August,2014. Thanks to amazing support, we've raised £10,000. We never thought we'd raise this much. If you'd still like to make a donation, rest assured it will go towards the not insubstantial costs of getting a new home adapted for Giles' needs. Thank you all so much.

Our great friend Giles Duley is a humanitarian photographer who lost 2 legs and an arm while working in Afghanistan in 2011. Giles has made an incredible recovery and through sheer determination is now slowly returning to work. Because he is again able to work, Giles is no longer eligible for benefits. But life is still very hard. Giles lives in a one-room bedsit in London with no heating, and windows that don’t open. The bedsit is not adapted for his needs, so even taking a shower is difficult. All his possessions are still in storage.

Giles desperately needs a place of his own that he can work from, and he can have adapted so he doesn’t have to be constantly on painful prosthetic limbs.

Giles can get a place in Hastings, where he used to live and has many friends, and a mortgage lender has stepped up to make it happen. But to make it possible he needs a £10,000 deposit which he cannot raise on his own.

The Warriors is a 15k run up Knocknarae Mountain in Co. Sligo. I’ve done it before, and it is really tough. But I reckon even at my age I can get around it one more time. I may be slow, but for Giles, I’ll get there. You can view what the run is like by visiting the following link; <https://vimeo.com/45975936>

In 2012 my partner Siobhan went back to Afghanistan with Giles. They made an award-winning documentary, Walking Wounded, return to the frontline. You can view this film on this link. < http://www.channel4.com/programmes/walking-wounded-return-to-the-frontline/4od>

Please help us raise the deposit to enable Giles to move to a place of his own so he doesn't have to endure another freezing winter. He has done so much on his own - he just needs a bit of our help.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charity has kindly allowed all donations received through this page to be directed towards Giles' Rehabilitation Fund.
