My father and I are taking part in 'The Monkey run'. A stupid, unnecessary adventure across 600km of Peruvian rainforest with no set route on an incredibly underpowered and unreliable motorbike packing a whole 5 horsepower and towering up to almost knee height! Part of this is the need to raise £500 each for the charity Cool Earth (we will personally be making up this donation if this fundraiser doesn't get there!).

Cool earth take part in many amazing projects in and around the rainforest including supporting local chocolate makers, planting over 105million trees and providing support to local communities, as it is them who can ultimately ensure the Rainforest is maintained. With Covid, they have also helped provide medical relief and helped ensure the virus has not spread to those in the most vulnerable, remote communities.

Whilst a trip through Peru may sound all fun and games, here is a direct quote from the Monkey run website "These are genuinely dangerous things to do. The website is written in a light-hearted fashion but you cannot overestimate the risks involved in taking part in this adventure.

Your chances of being seriously injured or dying as a result of taking part are high. Individuals who have taken part in past Adventurists' adventures have been permanently disfigured, seriously disabled and even lost their life.

This is not a glorified holiday, it's an unsupported adventure and so by its very nature extremely risky. You really are on your own and you really are putting both your health and life at risk. This is what makes them adventures."

Its finally happening! After initially setting the dates for this trip in 2020, 2023 is here, COVID has eased off and we are finally able to take part in one of the most ridiculous and stupid things we could think of.
