Please dig deep and donate now, as Courtney's cardiac arrest could have been avoided if she had been screened for this life threatening illness. She was extremely lucky to have survived.
On 29/4/2013 Courtney was in Malta on a college trip and she had heart failure, but due to the fast action of Adrian one of her college mates, she is still with us. Adrian was with her when she felt dizzy and collapsed, we will forever be grateful to him. We now know that she has a congenital heart condition called Long QT Wave Sydrome which is rare and is seldom diagnosed, as the young person suddenly dies due to cardiac arrest. On 30/4/2013 her heart stopped and they had to shock her again. It was very touch and go. She was in Intensive Care for 10 days in Malta and then flew back to the UK on a Lear Jet, accompanied by a Doctor and ITU Nurse. Courtney was in Critical Care for 5 days and is now in a Neurological Ward at Coventry University Hospital. Whilst in cardiac arrest, oxygen was not being sent to her brain, so she has suffered hypoxic brain damage, but this will be investigated further, when a bed is available at Leamington Rehabilitation Centre, where she will receive intensive treatment eg Physio therapy, speech and language therapy
