My daughter, Shanon Cummings, contracted a very rare strain of meningitis 5 years ago, that's not widely known about (Group A Strep Meningoencephalitis).

It was devistating to watch her nearly die, to be put on life support, have brain surgery and watch her learn to walk again.

She made a remarkable recovery but, has been left with life long 'minor' problems.

The more people know about the less common forms of meningitis i feel, the better we are at spotting the not so common symptoms. Such as my daughter who didn't have the 'classic' symptoms.

By doing this and other events, I hope to raise awareness of the other types of meningitis that blight so many lives.
