Imagine being told that you, or someone you love, is losing their sight. In that moment, two profound questions demand urgent answers: Can this be stopped? How will I live my life? We fund the brilliant minds and bright ideas, putting change in sight for everyone impacted by vision loss.

Story

With the kindness of everyone who has sponsored me so far, I have reached my initial target of £500. With just a few days left before my run I would love to make it to £1000. Training is still going well, the weather is looking pretty good for the run and I'm pretty much 100% prepared on the food and equipment front, just got to go through a big checklist tonight and finalise a few things. Tomorrow I'll be sending out an email and posting information on social media with details of how you can track my progress real time, watch out for that. Thanks again everyone. Craig.

My training is going very well, only 19 days until the big event. I'm very excited!! :) Massive thank you to everyone who has sponsored me and also to those who have voiced their concerns about my safety and sanity! :) I'll be fine so don't worry. If you want to follow my progress during my run, please email me your phone number and email address and I'll invite you to connect to the app I will be using. Craig.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, hopefully you will sponsor me. Let me tell you a bit about what I will be attempting to do and why.

It all started back in the Summer of 2014 when a friend, Chris HW (who some of you will know), marshalled at a Triathlon event and overheard someone discussing the Grand Union Canal Race. He came to work the following Monday morning and said to me "I have found your next crazy event!". He then went on to describe the 145, 45 hours Grand Union Canal Race, which takes place each May. At the time I thought that sounded like a huge distance and possibly a bit too crazy even for me! :).

However, in the weeks that followed I thought more about the event and checked out the details on the official website, coming to the conclusion that I was going to take on the challenge and I was going to use the event to raise money for some charities very close to my heart.

I emailed the GUCR event organiser and registered my interest in the 2015 race. In October 2014 the race entry details and forms arrived in my inbox, I filled them out and emailed them straight back, keeping my legs, arms, fingers and eyes crossed that I would be lucky enough to be one of the 90 competitors who's name would make it onto the official entry list.

On 11th November 2014 and email arrived back from the organiser with an attachment containing the entry list for the 2015 event. I opened it and eagerly looked up and down the list of names but couldn't see mine. I looked again, and again, the disappointment then set in. I hadn't made it into the 2015 event!. :(

Over the next 7 weeks, my disappointment turned into determination. As those who know me well will tell you, once I've set my mind on doing something, then it's a done deal....it’s going to happen!

On 28th December, I emailed the event organiser asking for details of the route and supplier of the official event maps. I had made my mind up that 2 weeks prior to the official event, I was going to do the 145 mile run anyway.

Over the following weeks, the idea progressed to what I am now calling "Craig's Crazy Run".

The total event distance is now 150 miles, the start line is Birmingham Gas Street Basin and the finish line now being in front of the Mediaocean offices at the Bluefin Building, 110 Southwark Street, London.

My mental strength and positive attitude will help me throughout the event and I hope to stay injury free during the run, completing it in approximately 35 hours.

As I mentioned earlier, I will be using this event as an opportunity to raise funds for some amazing charities that are very close to my heart. Please help me reach my fundraising goal by giving whatever you can afford to either or both of the charities listed on my team page. Please accept my HUGE thanks for anything you can spare. Once you donate via JustGiving, your money will be sent directly to the charity, allowing them to put your pennies or pounds to great use.

Thank you again,

Craig.
