Story

April 2013

A year in the planning. A year of training, a year of fundraising, a year of talking about it and being asked about it. It was the very best experience of my life, or up there in the top 3. Best moment on the bike? The first 3 miles from the start line. Nothing spectacular, we certainly rode through far more beautiful and exciting places. But it was the fact that I was FINALLY there, doing it. Biggest grin on my face, and, I'll admit, a bit emotional. I loved every last push of the pedal, even when the going got tough, and believe me, it was tough at times. Many, many hills. But, I did it and it was worth every weekend I gave up training, and every moment spent planning and fundraising. So I extend my complete gratitdue to each and everyone of you. WE did it. 200% of the target. I'm overwhelmed. I have some really wonderful, generous and just plain lovely friends and family.

Next up, Vietnam 2014!

March 2013

With only a few days left until the challenge begins, the money continues to come in bit by bit. Very excited & nervous ...

I saw this quote the other day:

“Your mind will quit a thousand times before your body will. Feel the fear and do it anyway.”

This is going to be fun!

Amazing to think that when I raised my first £100 I was chuffed to bits. Now we're over £5k boys & girls! I cannot thank each & every one of you enough who have supported & encouraged me in the past year, who have generously donated time, money & efforts to help get us to this point. It's overwhelms me. Only 5 weeks to go until I hit the melting tarmac & dusty tracks in the searing heat of Cuba and pound those pedals for days on end. I'll be uploading a blog when I return on www.kathirv.tumblr.com and on my fb page Kath's Cuban Revolution Cycle Challenge. Can't do it as I go as Cuba & the Internet don't really go together! 5 weeks. Flip sake. Kath x

April 2012

So in March 2013 I will be taking part in the "Cuban Revolution Cycle Challenge" through charitychallenge.com This involves a 350k wee bike ride across Cuba over 6 days.  Can't wait.  Here's where you all come into it. I'm fundraising for The ARCHIE Foundation and need to raise a fair bit of cash for this, so throughout this year I have a number of events and ideas to raise the cash. This includes a Casino Night in Premnay Sept 1st.  All ideas for fundraising are welcome, as are any offers of help for fundraising! Already my friends and colleagues are showing me their support so thank you for that.

I deliberated over which charity to fundraise for for sometime, deciding on The ARCHIE Foundation.  I figured that most folk I know locally will have benefited from the charity when their kids, friend's kids, kid's friends, grandkids etc etc have been to Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital (RACH).  I've certainly seen the work of this charity through my own work and contact with various departments at RACH.  And those of you who aren't local I hope will still support me in this challenge!

As well as generating sponsorship & organising fundraising stuff, I've also got to do that small thing called training! Not sure which is going to be the toughest!

So did deep, support my events and fundraisers and hopefully we'll make the target, and some!

Appreciate all your help & support in this.
