Last July our wonderful friend and colleague, Jacqui Cunningham received the devastating news that she had breast cancer..
Here’s a message from Jacqui:
Being diagnosed was probably the most frightening experience of my life. Being told you have a cancer that is aggressive and highly likely to return is also very frightening.
Telling my children and family that news was traumatic and extremely upsetting, I felt like I was disappointing them, letting them down, turning their worlds upside down.
Going to the appointments being told so many different facts and outcomes was mind boggling and while I was dealing with it and facing it, I felt it was so much harder for the people close to me as they’re unable to help you.
I started to rely on being comforted by the professionals I dealt with almost on a daily basis as they know what you’re going through, what the outcome may be. Even though I was surrounded by people who loved me, and wanted to support me, I’ve never felt so alone.
The rounds of chemotherapy are the hardest things I’ve ever dealt with. Watching that poison flow into my body and knowing it would make me feel dreadful for weeks with so many awful side effects is so disheartening, but knowing it was killing my tumour kept me going.
Facing a disfiguring operation and weeks of recovery is daunting to say the least, again though I have to do it, I want to live!I want to spend time with my family and friends having new experiences, going on holidays, laughing and having fun like I used too - I love my life.
So if the money raised helps just one person to avoid or ease any of what I’ve been and am still going through it will be worth the time it takes to donate.
And this is the reason why Cunningham’s Crew will smash the mud run!
