Bournemouth Collegiate School presents a fun day for all on Friday 22nd September to help Leon get new legs and to raise funds for The Dorset Children's Foundation, it will be a walk from Sandbanks to the BCS senior site in Southbourne and all pupils and staff will be taking part.

Leon was born in 2003 and due to developmental complications had his lower left leg amputated at 8 months old. He has subsequently had over 40 additional surgeries including many on his spine with metal inserts causing him pain. Despite all this, he carries on with his strong personality and a really positive attitude.

Since being at the BCS Leon has grown from strength to strength and loves sport. He was invited to join the rowing academy and has finally found a sport that he is not only good at, but isn't disadvantaged because of his disability.  When he rows he feels free and is able to achieve in sport, something he was doubting would ever happen. A specialist waterproof leg would make a massive difference to his rowing and he will require many more legs as he grows and the cost is £6000-9000 each, he donates his old legs to a charity in Sierra Leone.

Leon aspires to one day being a paralympian, please donate to help his dream come true

As a result of this, BCS have made the decision to organise a Fund Raising Event for the Prep & Senior schools and for the community to take part in to help Leon and his family.

We will be joining forces with the Dorset Children’s Foundation, our chosen school charity, who will also benefit from the fundraising.

The Dorset Children's Foundation was set up to improve the lives of local sick and disabled children. The charity funds medical expenses, therapies, mobility equipment and life enriching experiences not covered by The NHS.
The DCF’s 3 successful charity shops more than cover the charity’s overheads so 100% of any donation goes towards changing the life of a local child. The DCF are big enough to make a difference, small enough to care.

We are delighted to be working with The DCF and that they are now our charity partner. We feel it's very important for young people to learn about disability and to be given the opportunity to really make a difference by volunteering in the charity sector.

The Fund Raising will take place as a fun for all day on
Friday 22nd September 2017.

It will be a walk/run fundraiser from Sandbanks to the BCS Senior site in Southbourne, and all pupils, staff and associates will be taking place in the One Foot Forward, pirate themed day.

We will be looking for help from volunteers, fund raising ideas, sponsorships and contributions from local business and community members to make this event a huge success and to raise as much money as possible for our two worthy causes.

If you would like to help or volunteer, please contact simon.coulter@bcschool.co.uk
