Story

Hello Everyone!

Thank you for visiting our page!

Please find below some information about us, our cause and how you can support us.

Who are we ?

We are a group of passionate trainee clinical psychologists in our second year of Doctoral training at The University of Leicester and active fundraisers.

The bigger picture:  Our mental health services and charities are struggling. The need for mental health support is increasing whilst resources (e.g. money to finance services) are decreasing.

We are trying to support local mental health charities through our fundraisers.

In August 2015, we undertook the Three Peaks Challenge and raised £2856 for Network for Change, a local service within Leicester that aid the recovery of individuals who are experiencing mental health issues in the community.

We want to continue fundraising for mental health charities to support their work, raise public awareness and increase understanding and acceptance of mental health issues.

Who are we raising funds for this year ?

This year we have chosen to raise funds for The Laura Centre, a charity providing holistic bereavement support to parents whose child has died and to children or young people who have been bereaved of a parent or significant person.

For more information about The Laura Centre, please visit: http://thelauracentre.org.uk/

So far, we have raised £237 from our initial bake sale fundraisers held at the Psychology Cultures Seminars at The University of Leicester.

What are we doing now to raise funds ?

On the first weekend in October, we will head to the depths of rural England to survive the wild on 400 calories a day, without technology and the basic necessities in life that we can often take for granted (e.g.cooked food, electricity).

For us, this is similar to the experience of many individuals struggling in the current climate of austerity, uncertainty and ongoing cuts to public spending. It will be an eye opening experience for us to be able to put 'ourselves in the shoes of another'.

Why support us ?

Every penny counts!

How often do you get to see a group of trainee clinical psychologists trying to survive in the wilderness?

It's for a great cause plus you get to see us facing our fears and challenges whilst trying to survive in the wild!

Without your support we will not be able to fulfil our aim of supporting The Laura Centre.
