The Big Half 2023 · 3 September 2023 ·

Each year 450 UK children are diagnosed with brain cancer. Among these there is a tumour so aggressive that there is NO effective treatment or a CURE - Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma or DIPG. Responsible for 80% of all brain tumour death we raise vital research funds to give hope to DIPG families.

Story

For the second year in a row, a team of DGS students and staff will be running the The Big Half Marathon on Sunday 3rd September to raise money for Abbie's Army, a children's DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma) brain tumour research charity. The charity's mission is to raise awareness and funding for specific DIPG research, to help overturn it's terminal prognosis and provide practical advice and support for parents of children who receive a diagnosis.

The team will also be running in memory of Benjamin Shaw, a Dartford Grammar School student who sadly lost his battle with a DIPG tumour in March 2021. Abbie's Army supported the family throughout this time and continue to support them and many others.

Thank you to everyone for any donations you are able to make, and we hope that we can raise awareness of this important charity.

The following staff and students will make up the team:

Mr Metcalf, Mr Stephenson, Mr Golding, Mr Thomas, Mr Lamprell, Mr Fromings, Mr Rolls, Miss Harris, Miss Brehme, Mr Burgess and Chris Nason.

Gabriel, Millie, Grace, Bethany, Paola, Andrew, Matthew, Hamdhan, Anthony, Nicolaas, Anne, Aryan, Hannah-Destiny, Daniel C, Orey, James W, Zail, Miguel, Jesse, Tommy, Jonathan, Darin, Charlie, Daniel O, Jake, Maria Elena, James E, Fernando and Adeshola.

Good luck team!
