Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I''ve signed up to participate in the Colorado Cowboy Challenge on 4th September 2010, arranged by Southern Area Hospice Services (SAHS), and am trying to raise as much money as I can for the Hospice as it's one of my favourite charities.
The Cowboy Challenge will involve living like a cowboy (or girl, in my case) on a working cattle ranch for a week in September, getting up at 6 am each day to muck out the horses and carry out chores then out on the range each day, learning some roping skills and driving the 500 strong herd of cattle on the ranch. Right up my street!
Kevin and I took part in the Hospice's Trek Mexico in 2007 (see photos) and we found it to be a very enriching and rewarding experience. It's very humbling to see people living in virtual poverty who are willing to give to others.
A sincere thanks to my family, friends and business associates who have already contributed to my fundraising through various events already held - Charity Raffle (March), Walk in the Mournes (May), Charity Golf Classic (May), and A Night at the Races (May). I have a couple more events coming up -Bag Pack (25th July) and our daughter Kira's helping organise a Charity Gig in Auntie Annie's in Belfast (8th August).
Unfortunately we all know someone who has been affected by cancer or terminal illness. SAHS helps make the final stages in patients' lives more comfortable and dignified, and offers continuing support to their families and carers. With a fundraising target of £2.2m for 2010, SAHS needs to raise over £200 every single hour to finance its facilities.
