Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page.
This event will be travelling over 50k via Canoe, Mountain Bike and Walking over 2 and a half days to raise funds to support DSUK’s adaptive snowsport programmes which allow disabled adults and children to triumph over disability through snowsports.
For over 40 years DSUK have provided trusted and qualified snowsport instruction providing life-changing opportunities, increasing independence and confidence for those living with disability, like Ruth Spurr.
Ruth is a confident and energetic young woman who has EDS (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome), which is a genetic connective tissue disorder and affects multiple systems in multiple ways. It can range from mild to severe to life threatening/life limiting. Ruth fits somewhere in the middle and says this about her first ski lesson with DSUK.
'In that bi-ski I felt free. I left my wheelchair when I transferred. I wasn't just 'the girl in the wheelchait' I was a skier, a beginner at that but as time went on I pushed myself to get better and make the most out of a new sport I now adore' - Ruth Spurr
Areas of impact:
Purchase of new equipment such as a sit skit or outriggers. For example, a new sit ski costs £3000.
It could help DSUK to subsidise adaptive ski lessons, by offering up to £30 per lesson this could help between 175 - 200 people access the thrills of snowsport.
To cover the cost of providing specialist DSUK adaptive instruction by, for example, covering wages for DSUK Ski School instructors.
All money raised from this event will assist DSUK in the delivery of adaptive
snowsport programmes for people of all ages with disabilities.
