We are Scope. We campaign to transform attitudes to disability, tackle injustice and inspire action. We create opportunities and provide information and support that empowers.

Story

As many of you know, Phoebe and I unfortunately lost our mum earlier this year.

She battled with cancer for years and fought ferociously until the very end.

What some of you may not know is that we also have two brothers, who both suffer from a genetic disorder. Unfortunately, this has left them disabled.

My sister and I have experienced first-hand the pressures that disabilities put on a family.

The last year of our mother's life she sadly lost the use of her legs and became wholly dependant on others. The emotional, physical and mental strain was overbearing. However, all this was made worse by the public's perception of disabilities. Yes, my mothers legs were redundant, but she was no less of a person than she was before.

Scope strive to create a country where disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else. From a very young age we watched as our mum fought the council every step of the way, just to ensure my brothers went to a good school and received the calibre of education of everyone else their age.

We watched as she fought so my brothers would never feel left out from a society which they have a right to be a part of. My sister and I carried on this fight for my mother in her last year, and we will continue to carry on the fight for her for both our brothers.

Every donation we receive will take us a little step closer to ensure that those who do have to live, or care for those, with a disability will never feel segregated from society ever again.
