Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The idea to raise money for the NWAA came to me earlier this year when I was on a walk on Winter Hill during the winter after the heavy snowfall we had had. I was just walking up towards the mast when one of the NWAA helicopters came over and landed at the northern end of the hill. The road to the masts was still blocked by snow and the normal ambulance and Mountain Rescue Land Rover could only get so far. As I approached where the helicopter had landed it became apparent that it had come to the rescue of an injured hang glider pilot who had had a heavy landing. See the video I managed to film of it leaving with the injured man.
As I walk alone quite often in fairly isolated areas I had the realisation that if anything happended to me in these areas I could well need the assistance of the NWAA.
Finding more out about the charity lead me to become a volunteer and to raise awareness of the charity's work.
I thought I needed a challenge and decided on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks walk, something I had last done some 37 years ago when I was an apprentice on my Outward Bound week.
So that's where we are, it's not the London Marthon but its the same distance, thereabouts and does have some rather different terrain!!
I have set a fairly modest target of £1000, but obviously would like to raise more. To put this into perspective if everyone I send the link to this page just donates £2 (less than a pint these days) I will reach my target. Just think YOUR donation could help save a life of someone you know.
I haven't yet set a date for the walk, but plan it take place at the end of June, July or early August this year. Just need to slot it in sometime and give a good chance for the fund raising to reach a decent amount.
I will be accompanied by be colleage Greg who rather rashly agreed to come along so hope he realises what he has let himself in for, (not the walk just dragging me around)!!!
So please do want you can in whatever large or small way you are able.
Thanks.
