2010 Great North Swim · 4 September 2010 ·

We help people living with sight loss and other disabilities to achieve their ambitions and go beyond expectations. We believe wherever they are, everyone has the right to an independent and fulfilling life. Our support enables people and their families to build skills and develop confidence.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page

Henshaws Society For The Blind work in the North of England, enabling people living with visual impairments and other disabilities to build the skills and independence they need.  In particular they take children for canal boat rides, visits to farms, Halloween walks, Christmas parties etc. They also help parents understand and care for children with eye conditions.

Chris’s son Willem was born with an eye condition called nystagmus and has been supported by and Henshaws ever since.  Willem is a very bright and active 8 year old  boy who has discovered running and is already FAR better at it than his Dad, but he will always be visually impaired and he will need continued support throughout his life.

So in order to give something back for Henshaws help, we are swimming the Great North Swim in Windermere on 4th September. This is a one mile swim in (and I can confirm as I have tested it) freezing cold open water.  The aim is to complete it in 31 to 40 minutes, weather depending.
