John Dalton 250th Anniversary Sportive · 30 June 2016

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

The Dalton Anniversary Sportive celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of the Dalton Nuclear Institute’s namesake John Dalton, pioneer of modern atomic theory.

On 7th & 8th July 2016 a group of staff and students will be cycling 230km (143miles) over two days. Our route traces the journey of Dalton’s remarkable life from his upbringing and education in west Cumbria to his residency and impressive scientific achievements in Manchester, via his birthplace in Eaglesfield and the schools at which he taught at Pardshaw Hall and Kendal.

We're fundraising for the Stroke Association because John Dalton continued his research through a number of strokes. Stroke is a condition that affects many families from every walk of life, and is a cause important to all of us.
