Story
Having completed my first marathon in Edinburgh in May this year, I needed to find a new challenge, and quickly, before I get withdrawal symptoms from all that training...
I've always quite fancied the idea of having a go at a triathlon, and think I have already proven my credentials at running and cycling. Swimming, however, is another story.
My options seem to be - start taking swimming lessons and make steady progress towards a triathlon next year some time; or, sign up for a triathlon and see how I go. As luck would have it, there's a triathlon taking place next month on a date which was free, and they were still accepting entries. So, here goes... !
Thankfully, Alex intervened during the registration process, and persuaded me to at least start off with the shortest distance on offer. So, on 10 July I will be attempting to swim 400m, cycle 20k and run 5k. Simples. Except this morning (4 June) I couldn't manage more than 9 lengths without stopping. Hmmm...
Anyway, enough about me. I'm doing this race with an organisation called triforlife who are using this event to raise money for four great charities: Whizz Kidz (who provide wheelchairs and mobility equipment for disabled children), Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity and Rays of Sunshine (who grant wishes for seriously ill children in the UK). All of them do amazing work - you can find out more here: http://www.triforlife.co.uk/charities
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
