Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After watching the Coast to Coast series on the telly I had a thought that I'd like to do the route from St. Bees to Robin Hoods Bay during the half term holidays in May, however as we only have a week walking it was out of the question so the idea of running it instead was spawned, simply halving the two week walk. Easy! Actualy doing it is proving to be a little harder so I thought I'd raise some money as an extra motivating tool, by donating your hard earned cash you will be helping the 6th Form students at New College Worcester to go out in style at the Leavers Ball this summer. Keep an eye on my progress as I tackle the 180 miles up hill and down dales over the half term week and the training in the run up, wish me luck I'm going to need it! My target time will be around 40hrs of running...... we'll see what reality brings, cheers Dan (The Retro Runner)
Just a big thankyou to all who have made a donation to the cause, almost doubled the target so far which is great and a quick update on the training, I completed the Windermere Marathon yesterday 22nd May with a time of 4hrs 4mins a nice little warm up for the main event which now begins on weds 25th at around 7am all being well I should stumble and shuffel into Robin Hoods Bay mid afternoon on Tues 31st for some well earned fish and chips, I'll keep you all updated on the thrills and spills on my return, thaks again
Well thats that then, I've arrived back in one piece...(almost) after 150 miles of up hill and down dales I got almost to within sight of the sea when the wheels fell off, my body finaly decided to tell me to stop. The bad weather ( I'd been training over the last three months and had not got wet once) forced me to do a couple of marathons on the road and the pounding on tarmac led to a shin splint scenario on my left leg, for those who don't run it's a painful condition resulting in not being able to place your foot down without a lot of pain, still I did manage to clock up 150 miles in the most stunning scenery and got away pretty lightly really. There was one point when on top of the fells in the lake district on the 2nd day when the weather came down , visability was around 20 yards, my photocopied map had disintegrated in the rain and I realy didn't know where I was, standing around in my shorts and t-shirt didn't feel right so I took off in a random direction with the only thought of getting off the mountain by the quickest route to anywhere, as it happened I had chosen the right way( of sorts) and ended up in Grassmere as planned. Looking back that was the best part of the whole run, for my mum however I think not! She was all ready to call out the mountain rescue, lack of phone signal saved me the embarassment, apart from a couple of blisters and a cut knee( and the shin splints) alls well that ends well. I'll be going back to do the final marathon into Robin Hoods Bay and to claim the fish and chips I passed on as I hobbled down to the beach. A big thankyou to all who have made a donation and a special thanks to my support team, mum and dad, who looked after my every whim and provided towels and tea when it was most needed.....I'm already planning the next one! Cheers all, got to run Dan
