I'm taking part in a cycle ride by Sheffrec CC, my cycle club, from Sheffield to Scarborough and back (around 200 miles) in May 2010 to raise money for the Sheffield Hospitals Cystic Fibrosis Appeal. 

There are at present no specific facilities to allow children and young adults around Sheffield with cystic fibrosis to receive in-patient treatment.  Rather they are placed on adult repiratory wards, which are predominantly occupied by older people, and where facilities are generally unsatisfactory for young people.

The Cystic Fibrosis Appeal is raising money to complete the equipping of the facility that the Hospitals Trust has made available and partly funded.  The specific contribution we are hoping to make is to provide the unit with a number of specialist exercise bicycles so that the young people can get some exercise, keep themselves amused and improve their lung function while in hospital.  Because of the risk of cross-infection, most of the time they have to stay in their own rooms, so an activity is particularly beneficial.  We are aiming to raise at least £5000, which will provide 12 cycles.
