Magic Breakfast is a charity that delivers free breakfasts to school children in England and Scotland. We work to ensure that no child is too hungry to learn and thrive. We work with Primary, Secondary, ASL / SENs Schools and Pupil Referral Units, with a total roll of over 200,000 children.

Story

In July this year, I will be taking part in my first ever Iron Man in Switzerland. The triathlon distance requires you to complete a 3.9km Swim (2.4 miles), 180.2km Bike (112 miles) and 42.2km Run (26.2 miles) on the day.

In the build up to this, I’ll be participating in a half Iron Man on the 18th March (my first ever triathlon), running the Paris Marathon on the 2nd April and training 6 days a week to ensure I cross the finish line in Switzerland.

Why you might ask? Madness, midlife crisis? Probably. However,  losing my father recently highlighted to me that life is not a dress rehearsal - he both inspired and encouraged me to aim big and challenge myself, so this is partly for you, Dad. I have also recently reminded myself of the joy that I took from being active and taking part in competitive sport, which can be easily forgotten working away much of your day in the office.

In the lead up to Christmas, I followed the Magic Breakfast appeal in the Times and have been saddened, moved and given hope by the amazing work this charity does in trying to ensure that no child goes to school hungry, due to the detrimental impact that this can have on the child’s well-being and ability to learn. As the cost of living crisis bites, unfortunately more and more children will be pulled into food poverty. I realised that I wanted to try and use my own personal challenges as a means to try and help others less fortunate than myself.

A single child’s magic breakfast costs as little as 28p. And £55 would support a child for a whole academic year. So, a relatively small donation has the potential to have a huge impact on a child’s life. My sister, former Deputy Headteacher at an inner London school, (with a high level of disadvantaged children), has worked within the school community to implement this scheme and the impact has been invaluable.

Join me in my journey and please donate what you can for this incredible cause.
