Story

The Siberian Husky is a medium-sized working sled dog breed. The breed belongs to the Spitz genetic family. It is recognizable by its thickly furred double coat, erect triangular ears, and distinctive markings, and is smaller than the similar-looking Alaskan Malamute.

Huskies are not easy to train and will challenge first-time dog owners. The reason for this is in the breed history – Huskies were bred to pull sleds in harnesses over long distances. The breed was not developed to work closely with their owner. Instead, they were bred for endurance and athletic ability.

Shows, movies, and funny online videos have put the spotlight on Huskies and other wolf-looking dog breeds, but the idealized attention isn't necessarily a good thing. This is leading to a devastating trend: People are buying and adopting Huskies only to abandon them shortly after.

Huskies are beautiful with their striking facial masks and wild good looks, but they can also be stubborn and challenging for inexperienced dog owners. They're extremely intelligent, and those smarts often translate into mischievous behavior. Huskies are independent and strong-willed, and they're also skilled escaped artists. The average Husky can clear a six-foot fence, and when they put their minds to something, they don't give up easily.

But when a new dog owner sees the fluffy face of a Husky puppy with his cute little barks and goofy behavior, they're not thinking about any of those things. They don't realize the challenges of owning a Husky until it's too late.

8 Below Husky Rescue is a registered charity committed to the rescue, rehabilitation and revoking or Northern breeds within the UK. On arrival all dogs begin assessments and this continues throughout their stay, they ensure they are neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Once assessments are complete they will then start the search for their forever homes. Every dog’s journey is different and each has a bespoke plan catered for their individual needs And the homes selected after a vetting process are matched with the dog’s requirements. They are given as much of one as they need and lifelong support.
