In February 2013, I will be part of a group of 22 healthcare professionals from Sussex who are attempting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. All money raised goes to the Sussex stroke and circulation Fund (SSCF). Full details of our climb can be found at http://www.sscfkilimanjaro.co.uk/
Over the seven days the group will trek to the summit of
Kilimanjaro via the
Machame route to meet the sunrise at Uhuru peak - 5,895 metres above sea level having weathered high winds, low temperatures and the ever-present problems associated with oxygen deprivation and low pressure that are witnessed at altitude. As a consequence the risks are real, without them however the trip would be without personal challenge; in addition to raising the profile of the SSCF and the work it supports the Kilimanjaro challenge presents a unique opportunity to those undertaking it to test their own expectations of themselves both mentally and physically - none will have engaged in anything similar to this before.
