Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.Millions of people wake up with arthritis every morning and face the day in pain, without the support and recognition they deserve. Arthritis attacks what it means to live and people with arthritis are often left to manage alone.
I've had RA for over 10 years now. Being diagnosed after months of pain and not being able to walk properly was devastating but I had to learn to manage and adapt. Going from being super active, fit and having loads of energy to not was hard to deal with. It has been a struggle and my physical and mental health has taken a battering at times. My family and close friends are a constant support and without them I would suffer more (unfortunately some people don't have this support). I found exercise especially running, yoga and swimming in the last two years to be a great help. It not only gave me a focus but also built my confidence, self esteem and helped me overcome a lot of mental health issues.
I've been subject to discrimination both socially and professionally because of this illness and its side effects. The medication I am on isn't fun and it is what keeps me going unfortunately but exercise helps a lot also.
I want people to understand that this invisible decease as they call it isn't fun and is incredibly painful but you can do things to improve it. Mind over matter as they say. I don't want your sympathy but just understanding and consideration. Unfortunately most people will get it as they get older so no one is immune. I love running and exercise and it should be available to all. Running a half marathon for me is a big deal because of how my body can flare up anytime and be in pain but with the right training and time it can be done. I didn't think I could run 10k two years ago and now I really enjoy it.
Versus Arthritis invests in breakthrough treatments, the best information and vital support for everyone affected by arthritis. Please sponsor me so that together we can overcome the pain, isolation and fatigue of arthritis. I've set myself a goal of running this half in 2 hours 30 minutes (I'm stubborn though so ill try and beat this).
Fingers crossed and thanks for reading the above and sponsoring me on this challenge!
