The purpose of SBHI is to provide information, support and advice to people with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus, their parents and carers, as well as to promote social inclusion and equality for people with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus in Irish society.

Story

Myself and four others are fundraiser on behalf of an amazing charity called Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland (SBHI).

Spina bifida is a condition which affects about one in every thousand children born per year in Ireland. Ireland has one of the highest incidences of spina bifida births in the world. Spina bifida is the most common neural tube defect (NTD), it causes incomplete development of the spinal cord. Translated, it literally means 'split spine'.  Hydrocephalus occurs when there is an imbalance between the amount of CSF that is produced and the rate at which it is absorbed. This can be caused by:
a blockage in the pathways through which the fluid travels;
from an overproduction of fluid;
or a difficulty in absorbing the fluid that is produced.

Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland is a Brilliant charity who enable their members to get the very best from health, education, and social services in Ireland

They lobby the Government to significantly improve services and all necessary access for people living with disabilities. For any more information please visit
