Its tomorrow! Ack. And the weather looks like it'll be foul... still, it's only water. Thanks to everyone that's donated so far... You're awesome.

One week to go... A few more donations would be lovely. My employer has promised to match the donations I receive! So come on, take advantage!

Well, no. Not really....

On the 19th of September I'll be joining others on a Wirral Coastal Walk. It will start at 09:00 at Seacombe Ferry Terminal on the River Mersey to Thurstaston Country Park on the River Dee, a distance of around 15 miles, and is in aid of the charity 'Help for Heroes'.

'Help for Heroes' is a charity that specialises in providing financial aid, through a grant system - like the Lottery, to help injured servicemen & women from our Armed Forces. They help fund facilities such as the H4H Rehabilitation Complex at Headley Court opened recently by HRH Prince William of Wales. . This facility was funded purely from public donations and specialises in the physical rehabilitation of injured service members, helping them return to active duty or to aid them in their return to civilian life. I'd like you to visit their webpage to see some of the other work this charity undertakes: http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/how_we_spend.html

Now, I know there is a lot of public and media debate about things such as Afghanistan and Iraq... and people don't necessarily agree about the 'war on terror' but this isn't about that, put that from your minds for a moment. This is simply about supporting the men and women of the British Armed Forces that do the jobs that most of us couldn't do. We ask an awful lot of our Armed Forces, and by extension, we ask a lot of their families too. We ask them to place themselves in grave or mortal danger, so that we can continue to enjoy our lives unimpeded. We should take at least a moment to respect and honour that.

As a recent example, on the 23rd June 2010 Douglas Halliday was tragically killed whilst serving in Afghanistan, he was just 20 years old and serving in his first tour of Afghanistan under 1st Battalion, The Mercian Regiment. Dougie was killed along with his fellow servicemen Alex Isaac, Bobby Horton and Dave Ramsden. This fundraising walk was organised by Dougies family as a mark of respect to Dougie, Alex, Bobby and Dave and also to raise awareness for all the injured or fallen soldiers both past and present.

All spectators and well wishers are very much welcomed to this event; we hope to have collections along the way and all monies raised will go directly to Help for Heroes.
