Dave's GB Divide Individual Time Trial

GBDuro Individual Time Trial · 3 July 2021
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
**Edit** I've just had to delay the start date until the 10th July as I need to isolate, due to a household member being confirmed with covid. Currently I've tested as negative and I'm also double vaccinated so hopefully I can travel to Cornwall as soon as this isolation period is over!

I have decided to take on the challenge of time trialling my mountain bike from Lands End to John O' Groats to try and raise some funds for cancer research. Over the years many of my family and friends have been affected by cancer, whether enduring with the illness themselves or through helping loved ones with the disease and the need to cope quietly with the worry that cancer causes. It is my hope that I can raise some funds that will contribute in the research to ease peoples suffering and perhaps one day eradicate this all too common disease.
The Challenge:
Ride 1250 miles from one corner of Great Britain in England to the opposite corner in Scotland (LEJOG). The course is far from the straightest line and taking in Wales for good measure! Much of the route is off road using gravel tracks, single track, bridleways etc. there are even sections that I'll need to carry the bike over. It's also pretty hilly - if all of the hills were on top of each other the climbing would be equivalent to riding up the side of Mt Everest 3 times!
I'm doing official attempt at the route so there are a few rules such as: I must do the full thing without any logistical support from anyone else whilst on the course, anything I buy after starting must be commercially available so that anyone else doing the attempt has an equal opportunity, if I deviate from the route for any reason I must re-join where I left it.
I don't really know know how long this race will take me as I've had little time to learn about the route! It's going to be a case of head down and go for it, just dealing with whatever happens when it happens!
I'm no stranger to a mountain bike but this challenge is going to be super tough so please sponsor me if you can and hopefully we can help, even just a little, to finding a cure for cancer.
