Tunnel to Towers Run New York · 26 September 2010
Hi Everyone,
As many of you know I have been working for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service for 6 years now, working as a Retained Fire Fighter in Rochford. Myself and three of my colleagues at my station have got together and have decide to raise some money for the Fire Fighters Charity, we are each aiming to raise £1500.00 for the charity. The Fighter Fighters Charity helps and support fire fighters that are injured in the line of duty and fire fighters families that have been unfortunate to loose there love ones on duty, only last week we sadly lost two of our brothers, James Shears 35 years old who left a wife and two young son's behind, and Alan Bannon 38 years old who left a wife and one young daughter, when they were tackling a fire in a block of flats in Southampton and will sadly missed by family, friends and colleagues, who will all be able to get help and support in these sad times from the charity. The money that we raise will go 100% to UK fire fighters and there families. So to make sure that everyone that may need help and support from the charity in the future can get it, myself and three of my colleagues, will be raising £1500.00 each to make this possible.
We will then go to New York to do the Tunnel To Towers 5K run in memory of the heroic life and death of Stephen Siller a New York Fire Fighter and all the 9/11 victims. When Firefighter Stephen heard on his scanner that the World Trade Centre had been hit, he turned his vehicle around and headed towards the site. When his truck was prohibited from entering the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, he raced on foot towards the site with his gear strapped to his back. Following the route of Stephen, 5K run / walk we will traces the path he took on that fateful day, with thousands of people showing their respect for brave Firefighters, Police and EMS workers who performed their duty that day and who risked their lives to save others. The Tunnel To Towers was created.
Many Thanks for your dinations
Dave
