Story
On the 9th October I will take part in the Berlin 10k run. I usually run a few times a week to help myself keep fit. I have run a few 10k’s previously, but I have never done so in an organised event and it is something which I have always wanted to try. At the same time, I want to use this opportunity to raise money for an amazing charity, NSPKU (The National Society for Phenylketonuria UK).
The charity that I have chosen is one that is close to me and my family. My cousins daughter, suffers from a condition known as PKU and this charity helps support the sufferers, along with their families and their carers. It receives no government funding and relies solely on donations to fund practical support, helping to raise awareness of the condition, information on the condition and how to manage it as well carry out research.
PKU is an inherited disorder in which the body is unable to process phenylalanine, an amino acid found in proteins. Instead of being eliminated from the body, unused phenylalanine builds up in the blood, eventually causing damage to the brain and other organs. She will need to be on a special diet which needs to be monitored, daily for her entire life.
I am attempting to beat my previous times as well as trying to beat some of my colleagues who are also taking part, so the run will be challenging. My previous two attempts that I am aiming to beat are:
01:01:15
01:08:50
I am aiming to run it in under 55 minutes.
