Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

Hello,

A few years back my family and I lost someone incredibly important to us, my Grandmother. During her last few years, she was heavily affected by Dementia. To see an unbelievably intelligent and independent woman reduced to requiring 24 hour care was heartbreaking to watch, and it placed a huge amount of physical and emotional stress on all members of my family. I was always very close with her, and that made it very difficult when sometimes I'd visit and I would be unrecognisable to her because of the dementia. As a result of this, I felt I never got to properly thank her for everything she'd done for me, so I hope raising some money for Dementia UK will in some small way allow me the chance to do that.

I'll be running the Southampton Half Marathon for Dementia UK, as they provide vital support for people suffering with the disease and to both families and carers. I appreciate that the event is a while off, but any donation would be hugely appreciated by both myself and millions of people across the country affected by this disease.

The occasional text of something along the lines 'start running you lazy ****' would also be welcomed!

Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers,

Dave x
