Asda Foundation Leeds 10K 2019 · 7 July 2019 ·

We help people living with sight loss and other disabilities to achieve their ambitions and go beyond expectations. We believe wherever they are, everyone has the right to an independent and fulfilling life. Our support enables people and their families to build skills and develop confidence.

Story

As most of you will know, at the beginning of May I moved from my role as a director at Paragon Financial Management to become Director of Finance and Resources at Henshaws Society For Blind People. For some time I had been looking for a role that would allow me to help improve the lives of others, either directly or indirectly.

Henshaws is all about helping people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities to go beyond expectations: in other words, we help people fulfil their potential. We do this through our specialist college in Harrogate, our Arts & Crafts Centre in Knaresborough, our community housing and our work in the community. We benefit the lives of thousands of people each year.

Over the last couple of years, those of you who have seen me will know I have shed about a quarter of my body weight. In part this has been as a result of running and on 7 July I will be taking part in the Leeds 10K. I have enlisted the support of my nephew Sam and my son Ben’s partner Ellen who will both be running for the first time to run with me in support of Henshaws. All of us at Henshaws would be grateful if you were able to sponsor me.
