Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 6th July 2018, I will be taking part in the Longest Day Golf Challenge as part of the Four Right team (www.justgiving.com/teams/Fourright) at Essendon Golf & Country Club to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support. This involves playing 4 (four) rounds of golf in one day.
The sceptics out there will think that this is an excuse to get out on the course, away from the stresses of work and the like, and actually isn't that difficult to do. Ok, so it's true that I have recently got into golf, but anybody that has played with me will know that I find it far from enjoyable a good 75% of the time! Also, the course is approx. 11km long and that's tee to pin, not left to right zig-zagging down the fairway! That means about 44km in one day, carrying the clubs, listening to Nick jabber all way round and trying not to attack a tree with my 7 iron, all in the space of 14-15 hours of daylight - actually, why on earth am I doing this?!
The reason I am doing this is last year my family and I lost my granddad to a glioblastoma - an aggressive form of brain tumour. It devastated us all how quickly it caused him to deteriorate. A man that once used to single-handedly hold down all four of his grandchildren and tickle the hell out of them became frail and unable to look after himself in a matter of weeks.
He spent the couple of weeks of his life at Ashview Nursing Home in Widford and whilst not a MacMillan facility, the treatment and support he and my Nan received there made me realise that it takes a special kind of person to look after both those suffering from cancer and those who are witnessing and are affected by the suffering. This is my small attempt to help MacMillan carry on the excellent work that they do on a daily basis, for so many families.
Fundraising is hugely important to Macmillan. Without people doing events like this one, Macmillan wouldn’t exist.
Any donation will be gratefully received, no matter how big or small. And remember to tick the Gift Aid box!
Thank you. David
