CLAPA is a support organisation for all those affected by cleft lip and/or palate. One in 700 children are born with this condition. We provide information, advice, and support through our online events led by staff members and volunteers. Facebook groups, and peer and parent support services.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Liam was born in 2015 with a cleft lip, it had been spotted during his 20 week scan so it didn't come as a surprise and we were as prepared as you can be.  From that moment onwards the support we received form the CLAPA team was great.  The cleft lip was never going to prove debilitating for Liam however before he was born there were still worries and the CLAPA nurses were always on hand to settle any nerves and put our minds at ease.  It was decided Liam would go for his op at 3 months and again we knew it wasn't a huge procedure however seeing your baby going through it was heart breaking.  His story however is so different to other families who have to go through several operations at such a young age.

Cleft is one of the most common congenital abnormalities in the world, affecting 1,200 children born in the UK every year, that's about 3 a day, but little is known about what causes it.  CLAPA provides vital services to hundreds of families each year around the UK and works to raise awareness about cleft lip and pallet.  It is entirely independent of the NHS and is funded entirely by donations from the public and grants from trusts and foundations

I'm hoping to reach my goal of £250 to help CLAPA continue the good work they do with families affected by cleft lips and or pallets.
