Story
You may know that I had an extremely serious bicycle accident on November 14th 2016 in Bovingdon. As I cycled into the village a driver pulled across the road in front of me. I went over his bonnet and headfirst into the Old Well monument at the side of the road. The 999 calls made immediately alerted the air ambulance that my injuries were life threatening and that I had likely suffered a serious head injury. The EAAA helicopter arrived on the scene just over 45 minutes after the accident had happened and I was taken to Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge; it took just 25 minutes to get there.
There is no doubt the time it took to be taken to hospital and the care that I received from the EAAA saved my life; and further prevented me from being paralysed from the neck down and helped me avoid catastrophic brain damage.
When I discovered that the EAAA receives NO funding and is totally dependent on fundraising I vowed to do everything I could to help raise awareness and funds.
Despite still suffering from the after effects of the accident I am running the Moor Park 10k race on 1st October and I am hopeful that in doing so I can inspire you to donate money to such a worthwhile cause. It truly is the case that you never know when you, or your family or friends will need their services. When I woke up on 14th November, 2016 and went to work I certainly had no idea!
Since the launch of EAAA in 2000 they have attended over 20,000 lifesaving missions, touching the lives of many thousands of people. Their crew comprises specialist prehospital doctors and critical-care paramedics, and they operate out of two high-tech helicopters from 07:00 until 19:00 from the Norwich base and from 07:00 until 01:30 from the Cambridge base. They were the first air ambulance in the country to attend helicopter emergency medical incidents in the hours of darkness and this undoubtedly enabled them to attend to me; the pilots used night vision equipment to return to Cambridge. All of their equipment and services require significant investment! Please help.
