My Triathlon
At Stanborough Lakes Sunday 25th May 08.00am
Swim - 1500m, Cycle – 40 km, Run - 10 km
A big THANKS to those who have sponsored me so far - really appreciated :-)
I'm doing this on behalf of my family, friends, BT buddies & little 'ole me.
Four years ago I had problems with my prostate which turned out to be Prostatitis. This is not a form of cancer but can cause a wide variety of uncomfortable symptoms. Believe me it was a stressful and exhausting few months, going through various procedures to discover what I had - especially the waiting-for-the-results bit. Fortunately for me I was OK.
I'm trying to raise awareness. Prostate cancer is now the second leading cause of cancer death in men and this is something that needs to be publicised more than it is, along with the facts.
Both my Grandads had this horrible disease, so the chances of me inheriting it are quite high. What I'm trying to get out there is - if it's in your family, go and get checked - sooner rather than later.
Prostate websites say if you're 50 or over you should get screened. I disagree - if you're 40 or thereabouts, make an appointment to see your GP and get checked..
Another thing - Screening: It doesn't have to be embarressing - that's one of the factors that stops us gents getting checked. You don't have to have an internal examination, you can have a PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) check done with a blood test, which can give a good indication. IT'S SIMPLE & CAN BE A LIFE SAVER.
Have a look at prostatecanceruk.org if you'd like to know more.
Once again a big THANK YOU for taking the time to sponsor me. I'll give it my all on the day and do you all proud.
Thanks Dave
ps - I'm really not looking forward to the mile swim in Stanborough Lakes. :-)
