london to Brighton bike ride · 16 June 2013 ·
I first came to know about Saint Francis Hospice when my father was admitted there in November 2006. He had been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. He spent the next six weeks in the hospice until he eventually passed away on the 10 December. Over those few weeks in Saint Francis Hospice I spent many days and hours by his bedside, little did I know that this was to be the biggest eye opener I was to experience in my whole life. Words cannot describe the work that the Hospice does on a day to day basis unless you see it for yourself first hand. The dedication of the staff in caring for their patients is truly inspiring. I used to see patients in the wards with life threatening cancers, I would talk to them and their families share in their grief and prayers for their loved ones. When you’re going about your day to day life you rarely get to see or experience the wonderful work that is going on in places like Saint Francis Hospice, and it’s not until you understand and encounter it personally that you fully appreciate the level of dedication that is devoted by the staff and volunteers. I want to support and raise lots of money for this hospice for many reasons. I know there are a lot of good charities out there doing very good work, but isn’t dealing with life threatening and terminal illnesses that little bit more significant.
On Sunday the 16 June 2013 I will be cycling from London to Brighton (some 56 miles) to raise as much money as I can for Saint Francis Hospice. Over the past few weeks I have been training hard in preparation for the cycle ride, and make no mistake, having completed this ride nine times before it is quite a challenge! I will match all donations given with an equal amount of my own money just to show you my commitment. Please give generously to this wonderful charity.
Thank you
